BEING:

there is an ongoing (flow) sense of self (weight) in relationship to the environment (space) over time (time)

YIN YANG: working with the opposing qualities in relation to eachother to come into balance

module 1: BODY

DEVELOPMENTAL MOVEMENT PATTERNS

-breath

-core /distal

-head/tail

-upper/lower

-body halves

-cross lateral

integration (spirals)

 

body part phrasing:

describes how movement spreads through the body

-sequential: non adjacent bodyparts move one after the other

-simultaneously: all active body parts move at ones

-succesive: adjacent bodyparts move one after the other (fe body roll)

on different levels, skelatal muscular energy body breath

module 2: WEIGHT & FLOW

WEIGHT

-weight effort

sensing, intention, identification, me/myself/my physicality, presence and the relationship to earth/gravity

-weight: ACTIVE

light-strong

overcoming gravity’s pull with either a light or strong approach

-weight: PASSIVE

giving in to gravity’s pull with limpness or completely giving in with heaviness

-weight sensing:

between ACTIVE and PASSIVE weight

-relaxing and releasing into your weight to ‘sense it’

the organs, organ clock and related emotions

FLOW

-baseline of effort-

continuity, ongoingness and progression

flow often deals with feeling how one controles or releases their emotions

free-bound

different forms of chi and chi flow

-space effort

thinking, attention, intellect, ideas and perception

it is environmental/other related, internal/external

intuition, decision making and knowing the right moment to act

it requires reinvestment in the moment

Space

kinesphere: the area that the body is moving within

(and how the mover is paying attion to it)

-spatial intention: directions or points in space that the mover is identifying or using

-geometrical observations: of where the movement is being done, in terms of emphasis of directions, places in space, planar movement

-space harmony (scales)

 

spatial dynamics

planes:

horizontal (side)

vertical (up/ down)

saggital (front/back)

 

Shape

the way the body changes shape during movement

is about form aswell as the forming process

integrating factor

 

modes of shape change:

describes shape change that is either motivated by self or the environment

the modes of shape change are about creating relationships

 

there are three forms of shape change

 

-shape flow:

relationship of the body to itself (all about me)

essentially a stream of concioussness expressed through movement

can be amoebic movement or habitual actions like fe. shrugging, shivering, rubbing etc

 

-directional:

relationship where the body is directed towards some part of the environment. can be:

‘spoke-like’ (punching, pointing etc) descibes a movement that bridges to the environment and generally unfolds from multiple joints in a direct line

‘arc-like’ (swinging a tennis racket, painting a fence etc) descibes a movement to hat bridges to the envirment and generally moves from one joint in an arc

 

-carving:

relationship where the body is actively and three dimensionally interacting with the volume of the environment (kneading bread, wringing a towel, miming a the shape of an imagenary object, avoiding laser-beams)

 

shape qualities:

describes “towards where” the body is changing shape

forming oriented (a process of “growing towards”)

nb space is destination oriented

 

-advancing/retreating

-rising/sinking

-opening/enclosing

-spreading
